Vicki Kaplan's Report
Thanks Vicki for your report!
==================
I have just returned to Melbourne from Israel, where I have been volunteering
for the past 4 weeks.
1. I spent 2 weeks as a Sar-El volunteer at an IDF base with soldiers in
Hatzerim, Be'er Sheva, assisting in a logistical support role where I packed
supplies for the soldiers, which were then transported directly to Gaza.
2. I sorted clothes for displaced people, at Eran's Agels in Tel Aviv.
3. I chopped vegetables at Meir Panim, a soup kitchen in Or Akiva, as well as
filled bags with essential food items for the needy.
4. I travelled to an army base at Be'er Sheva with a vegan food van, 'J17', to
feed 600 Givati fighters of the Rottem battalion.
5. I picked tomatoes through the Leket organization, to help out farmers on a
moshav.
6. I helped out at a BBQ for soldiers positioned 2 km from Gaza.
7. In Jerusalem, I worked with Tachlit, another amazing voluntary organisation
packing and distributing fresh produce to displaced people and others in need.
In addition to my volunteering activities, I also travelled down south to
Sderot, Zikim and the Nova site etc, where I met and talked to some
extraordinary people, both soldiers and Israelis. We stopped at Shuva Achim
(Shuva Brothers) to donate much needed towels to soldiers who gratefully
accepted them.
At Har Herzl in Jerusalem, I attended the heart-breaking funeral of our most
recent fallen IDF soldier, whose parents are Australian.
My ultimate aim now that I'm home, is to make a documentary of my time in
Israel. Many Australians have volunteered since Oct 7, but Israel needs so
much help.
I have journaled my entire trip with videos, photos and commentary, and am now
ready to formally produce my documentary.
Thanks,
Vicki
